The Academy of Molecular Imaging is a progressive organization that builds the school of thought, scientific paradigms and clinical practices of Molecular Imaging to advance the growing field of Molecular Medicine.
This takes place through:
- The AMI Annual Conference.
- Programs throughout the year that focus on education in molecular imaging, from basic science to clinical practice.
- Interactions with government agencies, foundations and the public to increase their knowledge and awareness of molecular imaging and to gain their support.
- The Academy's journal, Molecular Imaging and Biology, that is published by Elsevier.
- The AMI Newsletter provides an ongoing reporting of events important to AMI's membership, such as FDA, CMS, private insurance decisions and announcements; science policy issues from the government, collaborative programs with other societies, technology advances, interesting articles and discoveries.
The Academy and its journal are involved in the various technologies of molecular imaging and multimodalities formed by merging together imaging of biological processes with imaging anatomical structures within which these processes take place. This includes such technologies as PET, optical imaging, MRI, SPECT, CT and ultrasound. The primary focus of AMI is in vivo molecular imaging, as well as in vitro studies that underlie the in vivo approaches.
Innovative clinical educational programs are provided for physicians and technologists at the Annual Meeting and throughout the year at local chapter and annual meetings of other societies. AMI also works to coordinate and assist specialty training programs throughout the USA and in other countries.
Imaging, biological, physical and pharmaceutical sciences and industries that support them are all part of the mission of AMI. There is also a theme within AMI to bring together molecular diagnostics and molecular therapeutics.
The Academy is comprised of four distinct components that are governed by their own councils: The Institute for Molecular Imaging Science(IMIS), the Institute for Clinical PET (ICP), the Society of Non-Invasive Imaging in Drug Development (SNIDD) and the Institute for Molecular Technologies (IMT). IMI, ICP and IMT are governed by their own councils that provide them the means to establish their own cultures and to meet their membership's needs. In addition, they will build programs and objectives involving partnerships between them.
Each academy member designates membership to be in ICP, IMIS, or SNIDD. IMT is restricted to corporate membership rather than individual membership.
The goal of AMI is to establish a structure that best serves the varied interests of the Academy's changing membership, and provide the means for IMIS, ICP, IMT and SNIDD to evolve the way their leadership and memberships desire.
AMI provides funds and administrative support for ICP, IMIS, IMT and SNIDD to staff their activities, produce material, communication services and funds for their program activities.
